BOOST YOUR BRAIN POWER

I was recently invited along to the Brain Charity’s HQ in the heart of Liverpool City Centre. Anyone who lives in Liverpool will recognise the building and like me probably thought it was a rehabilitation centre for people with brain injuries. How wrong was I? The Brain charity is so much more.

Rolling through the doors I was instantly greeted by a warm welcome, I instantly had a homely feeling and felt at ease. All staff and volunteers are friendly and ready to assist you in any way they can.

Tui Benjamin who is head of communications and fundraising, kindly reached out to me and invited me for a tour of the charities facilities and to tell me everything they have to offer.

The Brain Charity was founded in 1993 and offers emotional support, practical help and social activities to anyone with a neurological condition and to their family, friends, and carers.

I was treated to lunch in the onsite ‘Brain Food Café’ a community café which offers not just a safe, healthy and welcoming place to eat, but also offers opportunities of work experience. I had the vegetable lasagne seriously WOW it was delicious. The café has a fantastic menu of home-made foods and cakes at very reasonable prices.

Onsite there are three conference and training rooms to hire. Once lockdown is over, I shall be hiring a room myself to conduct disability awareness courses to the public. Each room is bright, airy and is fully disability accessible. The rooms can be laid out in a variety of ways to accommodate your training program. The cheap room hire rates include no hidden costs and the three ground floor spaces all come with high-speed WiFi, ultra-HD Smart-TVs for video conferencing, flipchart stands and whiteboards. Our meeting room also comes with a SMART interactive whiteboard while the seminar room and lounge have an infra-red hearing loop and built-in PA system. Lecterns, projectors and pens are also available, and staff will assist with IT setup too where required. By booking one of these spaces you are directly supporting the vital work the charity carries out to help people affected by neurological conditions.

There is an onsite charity shop and all proceeds go back into the fantastic work and support the brain charity carries out. This is the only building in Liverpool, outside hospitals and large-scale venues, that has a Changing Places toilet. This is an accessible toilet with a height-adjustable changing bench and hoist, these facilities ensure the centre is accessible to everyone.
